Side Event at Copenhagen

At the 15th Conference of the Parties UNFCCC in Copenhagen the side event on "Climate Adaptation Continuum, Migration and Displacement: Copenhagen and Beyond" took place on 16 December 2009. The event discussed state-of-the-art understanding of climate adaptation, migration and displacement and highlighted the existing and emerging challenges in policy, research and practice in this area. The objective of the event was to raise the delegates' awareness of the human mobility implications of climate change and to ensure that they are duly recognized in the successor agreement to the Kyoto Protocol.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations University (UNU), the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), and the Representative of the Secretary General on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons (RSG) contributed to the side event at Bella Centre, Copenhagen, with presentations.
